Are seated exercises for older adults enough on their own?

Seated exercises are an excellent starting point and may be enough for some people, especially those with significant weakness, pain, or balance difficulties. They can improve circulation, joint mobility, and some muscle strength, particularly in the legs and upper body. However, if it is safe and possible, many people benefit from adding some supported standing or walking practice too, because this can better reflect the movements used in daily life. The ideal routine depends on the person. For one individual, seated exercises may be the right long-term option. For another, they may be the first step before progressing to standing work. What matters most is that the exercises are safe, realistic, and matched to the person’s health and abilities.
