Can someone with a colostomy shower or bathe normally?
In most cases, people with a colostomy can shower or bathe largely as they did before, though they may need to adapt slightly. Some prefer to shower with the bag on for security; others like to remove it and let warm water flow gently over the stoma. Harsh soaps, scrubbing, or very hot water should be avoided around the stoma area. Our carers can assist with bathing and showering support, helping prepare towels, adjust water temperature, preserve dignity with towels or robes, and ensure equipment is ready for a fresh bag afterwards, so the whole process feels calm and safe.
