Do you support people with dementia who have mobility problems?
Yes, we regularly support people who live with both dementia and mobility changes. Dementia can affect judgement, spatial awareness, and memory, so someone may not recognise hazards or may forget to use their walking aid. We take time to understand the person’s history, preferences, and usual routines, using calm prompts and reassurance rather than rushing. We can also draw on resources such as guidance around daily life with dementia to shape our approach. By combining dementia-sensitive communication with safe moving techniques, we aim to reduce distress, support familiar routines, and keep the person as independent and comfortable as possible.
