How do you respect privacy and dignity when providing intimate cancer care?

Respecting your dignity is central to how we work, especially when cancer or treatment has affected your body, weight, scarring or continence. Carers will always explain what they’re about to do and seek your consent before helping. We use towels and clothing to keep you covered as much as possible, work in warm, private spaces, and encourage you to do anything you can manage independently. Your cultural, religious and personal preferences are carefully noted in your care plan and followed by the team. If you would prefer carers of a particular gender where possible, we will do our best to arrange that. The aim is for you to feel safe, respected and in control, even when you need hands-on support.
