How is end of life pain managed at home?

Pain management is usually overseen by the GP or community nurses, who prescribe and review medication. Our role is to support the agreed plan: helping ensure medicines are taken on time, watching for side effects, and using gentle techniques like repositioning, cushions, heat packs or cool cloths if advised. We can also help family spot signs of pain when someone can’t communicate clearly, such as facial grimacing, restlessness or changes in breathing. If pain seems poorly controlled, we’ll encourage you to contact nurses or the GP and can share specific observations to help them adjust treatment. The aim is always for the person to be as comfortable and alert as possible within their own priorities.
